Following the acquisition of Essex-based Kemtron, and its French subsidiary Kemtron Sarl, TE Connectivity adds EMI and RFI shielding, environmental sealing, gaskets and components to its portfolio.
Commenting on the acquisition, Nick Jones (pictured), vice president and general manager of TE’s Performance Materials business, said: “Combining TE’s expertise in heat shrink tubing, manufacturing scale and distribution with Kemtron’s . . . market-leading EMI/RFI solutions, we can significantly enhance the value we bring to our customers. The resulting expansion of our advanced materials science and engineering capabilities marks an important milestone in our strategic vision to expand in these critical EMC shielding and sealing markets.”
The acquisition by the Swiss connector and sensor company “will ensure the future of the company and its staff,” said David Wall, Kemtron’s chairman. “With the backing of such a global leader in the electronics industry we will be able to develop innovative new products and materials to meet the growing demands of our customers,” he added.
TE Connectivity’s portfolio serves transportation, industrial and communications sectors. Its product range includes terminals and connector systems, components, sensors, relays, antennas, heat shrink tubing and application tooling for transport and connectivity systems for vehicle infotainment, driver information, motor, powertrain, safety and security systems. For commercial transportation, the company’s connectivity products are used in on- and off-highway vehicles, heavy trucks, construction, agriculture and buses.
Its sensors are used in automotive, industrial equipment, commercial transportation, medical solutions, aerospace and defence, and consumer applications. For the industrial sector, products include terminals and connector systems and components, interventional medical components, heat shrink tubing, relays, and wire and cable for use in factory and warehouse automation, industrial controls, robotics, human machine interface (HMI), industrial communication and power distribution as well as smart building infrastructure (lighting, HVAC, lifts/escalators and security).
The company reported revenue of $14.923bn in 2021.
Kemtron was established in 1980, designing and manufacturing EMI shielding products. Its UK headquarters in Braintree, Essex produces short-run, bespoke and standard products, supported by in-house design, development, engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
